About the Department
Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine whereby the digestive system and its disorders are studied.
We provide comprehensive care for patients with a wide range of conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract, liver, biliary tract, and pancreas.
Our Gastroenterology & Intestinal Sciences is headed by Dr. Varghese Thomas, who is acclaimed as the doyen in Medical Gastroenterology and is regarded by many as the Best Gastroenterologist in Calicut. Advanced procedures like E.R.C.P, Capsule Endoscopy, Double Balloon Enteroscopy, Percutaneous Gastrostomy are handled with extreme precision and care. Surgical Gastroenterology team handles all kinds of Gastro Intestinal Surgeries.
The Department can also boast about the two specialist consultants Dr. Varghese Thomas and Dr. Bhavith. R and Consultant of Surgical Gastroenterology Dr. Sreesanth K S.

- Represented Kerala in National conferences, task force meetings and guidelines meetings
- Lead faculty for training of MGE residents –Indian Society of Gastroenterology programme
- Conducting weekly on-line PG clinics for DM/DrNB residents (All India) since beginning of Covid – Now 6th consecutive year
- Received Master of ISG Award in 2024 and Fellow of Indian Association for liver in 2024
