Dr. Ajay S. Panakkal began his academic career with the MMC family in 2017 as a Senior Resident in the Department of Orthopaedics. In recognition of his dedication to teaching, clinical excellence, and academic commitment, he was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2018. Owing to his continued contributions to patient care, postgraduate training, and departmental development, he was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor in 2022. He was further elevated to the position of Professor of Orthopaedics in 2025, reflecting his sustained academic achievements, leadership, and clinical expertise within the department.
Dr. Ajay completed his MBBS from Sri Siddhartha Medical College in 2010. He pursued his Diploma in Orthopaedics (D-Ortho) from Al-Ameen Medical College in 2015, and later obtained his Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in Orthopaedics in 2017, further strengthening his academic and professional credentials. Earlier in his career, he worked as a Junior Surgeon at Co-operative Hospital, Calicut, where he gained extensive hands-on experience in managing a wide spectrum of orthopaedic and trauma cases.
Dr. Ajay’s areas of clinical expertise include:

• Total hip replacement
• Complex trauma management
He has a strong interest in advanced joint reconstruction and the surgical management of complex trauma cases, combining sound academic knowledge with refined operative skills. He remains committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centered orthopaedic care while actively contributing to the teaching and mentorship of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees.
